About Us

Who we are

Three Rivers Museum Trust was formed in 1988 by local people concerned to safeguard the dwindling heritage of our area.

We were set up in Basing House, formerly the offices of Three Rivers District Council, which we still occupy. We became a Company Limited by Guarantee in 1994, and and were registered as a charity in 2016.

We have seven Directors and Trustees at present, as well as an Education Officer and a number of other 'portfolio holders', and you can contact us by e-mail at chairman@trmt.org.uk and enquiries@trmt.org.uk, or through the  Contact Us page.

What we do

Three Rivers Museum exists to provide education for everybody, by promoting a greater understanding of our local history. We do this by collecting, preserving and presenting material of archaeological, historical, artistic and social interest and importance. We also seek to increase public access to local and family history, for instance by providing research facilities, but also by presenting research into relevant topics both local and further afield.

We see our outputs as being:

  • Our collection, presented to the best effect we can manage by following the best practice we can obtain.
  • Our digital material (oral and visual, including our website), and on-line access to other relevant websites.
  • Our Journal, Yesterday Today, which also acts as our members’ newsletter.
  • Visits to the museum by local groups of adults, by school parties and other groups.
  • Talks on the Museum and its collections, delivered both at Basing House and elsewhere (‘outreach’).
