Where and how to find us

Basing House

We're in the middle of Rickmansworth High Street, next to Watersmeet theatre. Postcode, WD3 1HP, what3words drop.boot.motel.

You can get to us by public transport. By rail (Chiltern Railways and the Metropolitan Line), then about 5 or 10 minutes walk from the station (turn right from the door, then right down Station Road to the High Street, then left to the museum). Arriva buses stop nearby: the 320 and 322 in the High Street at St Joan of Arc school, the 724 and 725 at the station.

If you're cycling, there are bike racks ouside the library and at the High Street corner of Church Street. If driving, parking for up to an hour may be available, in the High Street outside, the town centre car parks are nearby, and the council staff car park immediately behind the musuem is publicly available outside office hours. There are disabled parking bays nearby.

Getting in to the museum

Two shallow steps go up to the museum front door, with a handrail. Step-free access is available through a door at the side of the building - our steward will let you in, and you can attract their attention using a bell push by the door.

Most of the museum is then on the level, but the small Basing Room has two steps down. You'll be able to see most of the display there from the door, and the steward will be able to point out features not immediately clear.

Visitors needing to sit down during their visit will be able to do so.

We have a small movable platform for visitors of short stature to see (for example) the digital kiosk screen, but most of our material can be viewed from a seated position.
