Franklins Water
Our new exhibition

A display of a local family very well known in the area in the nineteenth century. They set up and operated a mineral water and soft drinks factory in what had been the old silk mill, and is now occupied by the M&S Foodhall and council car park.

Franklins took over the old silk mill, dating from (or much enlarged in) 1830, in the 1880s. It was pictured here in 1990, shortly before being demolished to make way for the Marks and Spencer Food Hall.
Franklins Mineral Water was a prominent feature of Rickmansworth for many years, on the High Street site now occupied by the M&S Foodhall. Members of the family, which was large and with many interests, are still in the area, and have contributed to our knowledge. Come and learn more in our current display - another presentation of 'what it was like to live and work round here'.
