We're getting ready to mark the end of fighting in Europe in 1945. You can see us at the Rickmansworth VE Day event at St Mary's Church on the evening of 8 May, at the Croxley Green 'street party' on 10th May, and at the special Abbots Langley archives day on 12 July. Click here for our VE DAY 80 POSTER.

And we'll have a special display in the museum.

We've chosen a theme - 'Feeding the Nation' - or at least, our bit of it. Our 'mission' is to "tell the story of what it was like to live and work round here". We're not going to present lots of photos of 1945 street parties (one or two, like the header for this item), but to tell more of the stories, especially about how it felt at the tiome. So we'll have images taken from newspapers of the time; recorded recollections from people who were there; and some of the advice and directions people were given on 'how to eat' - grow your own, Dig for Victory, cooking economically - even how to set up house.

So on this website, and in our exhibition and displays, we'll be providing information to jog people's memories - or to give an insight into 'what it was like' here at the end of the war.
