We're an Accredited museum!
Always pretty good, we've shown we meet the national standard

After four years of hard work on top of the huge effort to provide a local history museum for Three Rivers, we were told just before Christmas that we have achieved the standards laid down by Arts Council England for the award of Accredited status. At last we join the ranks of most of the museums of Hertfordshire, and indeed most of the country, as an Accredited museum.
It means that we, and our visitors and supporters as well as our members, can be confident that we're running our museum to the right level. We look after the objects, and the archives, in our care properly, we present them to the public correctly both in and outside the museum, and we're properly organised. Now, we've always been pretty confident that we did these things, but we've never tried to demonstrate to an outside authority - now we have, sucessfully.
It's not been easy, despite our good background. There's a huge amount of detail behind the assessment, and we've had to make quite a lot of changes in what we do. We've learned a lot as well, and have a much better understanding of the ways in which a strong museum operates.
And so we start a new chapter in the life of our small museum. If you;re not already, you can be part of it - as a member, as a community supporter, or just as a visitor. Use the Contact form to find out more!
